“I assure you that the BPO industry will be protected not only by me but by the president. I will protect your industry as long as I am the secretary of the DICT,” Salalima said in a news briefing after the formal release of the IT-BPM Roadmap 2017-2022 in Pasay City.

“He is a very sincere human. Do not prejudge our president. I assure you that there is no conflict to what he said about the US during the China state visit. He only wants economic independence without cutting ties with the US,” Salalima said.

More than 70 percent of the business process management companies in the Philippines serve the American market.

Under the new roadmap, the IT-BPM sector expects revenues to climb to $38.9 billion by 2022 from $22.9 billion at present. Jobs in the sector are expected to increase four-folds to 7.8 million of direct, indirect and induced jobs with 1.6 million full-time equivalent.
