In an effort to showcase Davao’s vibrant fashion scene, members of the Davao Fashion and Design Council Foundation Inc. (DFDCI) recently unveiled a stunning 100-piece collection at The Stellar Fashion Gala.
In collaboration with the Mindanao Trade Expo Foundation, Inc. (MTEFI), this fundraising event was conducted at the opulent Samal Grand Ballroom in Discovery Samal with the goal of supporting the weaving communities involved in the b.LOOM Project – DFDCFI’s initiative to redefine Davao’s artisanal weaving brand.
The project aims to realign Davao’s fashion identity with sustainable practices by transforming local weaving into a global artisanal brand. The Luxe Resort collection unveiled an impressive array of Philippine tropical fabrics, including abaca, bandala, piña, banana, and kawayarn.
Renowned designers such as Aztec Barba, Dodjie Batu, Emi Englis, Popoy Barba, Edgar Buyan, Egay Ayag, Windel Mira, and Benjie Panizales contributed their talents to highlight these indigenous textiles, produced in collaboration with the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute.
All proceeds from the gala will benefit the b.LOOM Project’s Sustainable Enterprise Program, which focuses on indigenous and emerging textile weaving among creative communities in the Davao Region. MTEFI played a crucial role in ensuring the proper identification of deserving communities and the distribution of donations.
Beatrice Gonzalez-Magallanes, President of Discovery Samal, praised the event, expressing admiration for the creativity displayed by the b.LOOM Project. “We look forward to hosting more fantastic events with a priceless view of the Davao Gulf at Discovery Samal,” she said.
