QC gov’t teams up with 8990 for affordable housing

The Quezon City local government unit has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with mass housing developer 8990 Housing Development Corp. to provide 2,699 housing units for city government employees and informal settler families.

The signing took place on September 28, as part of the Urban Deca Homes Commonwealth project near Batasan Road in Barangay Commonwealth.

Quezon City mayor Ma. Josefina Belmonte emphasized the significance of the agreement, especially given the Philippines’ ongoing housing backlog, which exceeds 6.5 million units.

This initiative addresses the dream of homeownership for many Filipino families, particularly in District 2. She praised 8990 Holdings for their commitment to delivering quality, affordable housing.

8990 Holdings chairman Mariano Martinez Jr. highlighted that this partnership marks the company’s first collaboration with a local government unit and expressed hope that it would foster a more inclusive community.

He also mentioned that 8990 Holdings has successfully developed various projects, including Urban Deca Homes in multiple locations across the Philippines, which aim to provide affordable housing options for low- and middle-income families.

The signing was attended by Quezon City District 2 Representative Ralph Wendel Tulfo and District 2 Councilors Mikee Belmonte and Julienne Alyson Rae Medalla, Brgy. Commonwealth Brgy. Capt. Manuel Co, 8990 general manager – Legal Atty. Hazel Helmuth and 8990 chief finance officer Roan Buenaventura-Torregoz.
