Former Mayor Emilia Lourdes ‘Omil’ Poblete formally filed her certificate of candidacy (CoC) for the 2025 Elections as local chief executive of Silang, Cavite on Thursday. She served as mayor from 2013 to 2019 and is poised to reclaim her position.
Poblete went to the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Barangay Biga 1 with hundreds of supporters wearing green shirts to cheer her on. She aims to win back the mayoral seat after losing in the 2022 polls.
It is estimated that there will be a three-way battle for the highest political office in this town with incumbent but suspended Mayor Kevin Anarna and acting Mayor Ted Carranza competing for the post.
Silang has more than 153,000 voters across all 64 barangays, which is estimated to increase with the addition of new voters who registered recently.
Poblete was accompanied by her father, former Mayor Clarito ‘Areng’ Poblete, who also served as mayor of Silang for a long time. Her cousin, incumbent Cavite fifth district broad member Paolo Crisostomo, and sister Corie were also present.
Omil said she launched her candidacy to restore vitality, fun, and good governance in Silang. Her running mate is Dr. Armin Guarin of the Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), who also filed her COC on Thursday.
“Let’s focus on health care and the programs we left behind that they removed that we will restore and add many more benefits for the youth, senior citizens, PWD (persons with disabilities) and all sectors,” she said.
The local elections will be held on May 12, 2025.
