One rebel member died in an encounter between the Army’s 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division (2ID) and the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Famy, Laguna.
According to reports from the 202nd Infantry Brigade, soldiers were conducting security operations based on information received from concerned citizens regarding extortion activities in Sitio Sigsigan, Barangay Bacong.
During these operations, the troops were fired upon by an armed group, which led to a firefight before the reds fled the scene.
No casualties were reported on the government side; however, a female member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed and later identified as Agnes Lingay, also known as Judy or Esek within the underground movement.
At the encounter site, soldiers recovered a short firearm with a magazine containing six live rounds of ammunition, a backpack, a handheld radio, a headset, as well as assorted medicines and personal belongings.
“The support of our fellow citizens is a testament to their confidence in our efforts to maintain peace and security. Rest assured, we remain committed to protecting our communities and responding promptly to any threats that endanger their safety and well-being,” stated 2ID commander Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr.
He emphasized that while the government does not celebrate the loss of lives, it remains steadfast in its mission to end insurgency and restore lasting peace in affected areas.
Maj. Gen. Balaoro further urged the remaining members of the CTG to abandon their armed struggle and embrace the opportunities offered by the government through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for a peaceful and better future.
