One or two ‘landfalling’ tropical cyclones may hit Philippines in December, says Pagasa

Scattered rain and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila on Sunday due to the effects of shear line, the state weather bureau said.

The shear line is also expected to bring moderate to heavy rains in Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Bulacan, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Negros Occidental, and Cebu.

Meanwhile, scattered rains and thunderstorms in Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan are to be expected from the effects of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) is also expected to bring cloudy skies with rains in Ilocos region and the rest of Central Luzon.

In a 4 a.m. weather advisory, DOST-PAGASA Weather Specialist: Grace Castañeda confirmed that there is currently no low pressure area within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but one or two ‘landfalling’ tropical cyclones will hit the country this December.

A gale warning is raised over Isabela, Northern Aurora, northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, and the northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes.
