Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, praised the Filipino community for their vital contributions to Emirati society.
During a meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, he described Filipinos as possessing “civil and gentle” qualities that are deeply valued in the UAE.
President Marcos expressed gratitude for the UAE’s warm hospitality towards Filipinos, noting that this acceptance has significantly strengthened ties between the two nations.
The leaders engaged in discussions about regional stability, with Marcos assuring Sheikh Mohammed of the Philippines’ commitment to resolving maritime issues through adherence to international law.
He emphasized ongoing government efforts to maintain peace and economic stability, which Sheikh Mohammed recognized as essential for enhancing trade relations between their countries.
Marcos highlighted Dubai’s success in diversifying its economy beyond oil, viewing it as an inspiration for his administration’s focus on services and tourism as key growth drivers.
He reaffirmed the importance of mutual respect in the Philippines-UAE partnership, particularly regarding the fair treatment of Filipino nationals in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed hope that President Marcos’ visit would mark the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations, emphasizing collaboration in economic development and innovation.
