The Philippines’ Executive Order No. 570, issued in 2006, was selected as one of 12 finalists for the 2024 World Future Policy Award, according to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPRU).
The executive order institutionalizes peace education within the country’s basic and teacher education curricula, with the aim of cultivating a culture of peace and non-violence.
The policy provides students and educators with the values and skills necessary for conflict resolution and community harmony.
The World Future Policy Award recognizes pioneering policies that have a global impact; EO 570 is among other notable initiatives such as Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy and Costa Rica’s abolition of its army.
The announcement of the award winners will take place on November 27, 2024, in Geneva.
