The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported that Col. Rolando Escalona Jr., a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Service (JAGS), was found dead in his quarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
In a statement sent to the Philippines News Agency on Sunday, AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla confirmed that Escalona’s body was discovered in the early hours of November 22.
Padilla stated that both the AFP and the Philippine National Police are conducting a “thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
She also extended condolences from the AFP to Escalona’s bereaved family.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Colonel Escalona during this difficult time. The AFP is committed to ensuring a complete and impartial investigation to shed light on this matter,” Padilla said.
JAGS provides legal services to the military.
“The AFP, in coordination with the Philippine National Police’s scene of the crime operatives, is conducting a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Padilla added.
No further details were provided regarding Escalona’s death.
