The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) committed to speeding up its regulatory process, including the performance audit of the transmission sector, as it presented its proposed budget for 2025 before the Senate committee on finance on Oct. 9, 2024.
ERC officer-in-charge (OIC) chairperson and chief executive Jesse Hermogenes Andres assured the lawmakers that the ERC remained on track in completing the performance audit of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) within the year despite the agency’s constraints in its structure and manpower.
The ERC said this performance audit is crucial in ensuring the reasonableness of power rates that are being passed on to consumers.
“We will conduct a comprehensive process audit within the ERC to make sure that we are able to deliver in a timely manner the services that are expected of us. This will be done in the very near future because the timeliness of the performance of this mandate is of national importance. As I’ve said, lives of Filipinos are affected day in and day out so we need to act more expeditiously on the matters before the ERC,” Andres said in a statement.
