PNOC to install rooftop solar system at NFA headquarters in Quezon City

The National Food Authority (NFA) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) for a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its headquarters in Quezon City.

“This solar rooftop project will not only save on our power costs but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions and safeguarding the environment,” said NFA administrator Larry Lacson.

He said the project would serve as a model for other NFA offices and warehouses nationwide.

Under the agreement, NFA will lease a 100 kilowatt-peak solar PV system, which is expected to significantly lower its electricity expenses.

The monthly billing will be calculated based on the net energy output of the solar system, with a rate 10 percent lower than prevailing utility prices.

The cost-saving measure will provide NFA with financial relief, allowing it to allocate more resources to its core mandate of maintaining sufficient rice buffer stocks.

The NFA network will have a total solar capacity of 5 megawatts peak, aligning with PNOC’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in government operations.

By leveraging solar power, NFA not only reduces its carbon footprint but also contributes to the national goal of increasing renewable energy utilization.

The project is expected to enhance the reliability of NFA’s energy supply in addition to cost savings.

The MOA provides for the transfer of ownership of the solar PV system to NFA after 15 years at no additional cost under a lease-to-own arrangement.
