Re-electionists lead Metro Manila survey

Re-electionists dominated the latest poll conducted by RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD) among the mayoralty bets in Metro Manila.

The survey, conducted last October 17 to 26, has a +/- 2% margin of error.

In Quezon City, Mayor Joy Belmonte remained the preferred choice by voters with 60 percent against Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Michael Defensor at 35 percent. Voter’s top-of-mind opinion, according to the survey, shows high trust and confidence in Belmonte’s leadership.

Mayor Toby Tiangco of Navotas City, who is running for Congress, and his brother Rep. John Rey Tiangco, who is aiming for the mayoralty position, are the favored choices at 80 percent and 75 percent, respectively. On the other hand, their contenders – Gardy Cruz and RC Cruz – got 10 percent and 13 percent, respectively. Navoteño survey respondents who chose the Tiangcos said they are satisfied with their track record and performance.

Rep. Dale “Along” Malapitan, who is seeking the mayoralty post in Caloocan City, posted a wide margin at 70 percent voters’ rating against Rep. Edgar “Egay” Erice at 25 percent. Incumbent Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan, is assured of his old congressional seat.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto retained his wide lead at 65 percent voters’ support against his challenger, Vice Mayor Christian “Iyo” Bernardo, who got 33 percent.

The mayoralty race is tight in Marikina with Mayor Marcy Teodoro’s 42 percent statistically tied with Rep. Bayani Fernando’s 40 percent.

Former Mayor Lani Cayetano scored 62 percent against former Rep. Arnel Cerafica who received a rating of 33 percent for the race for mayor in Taguig City.

The survey also showed that Mayor Abby Binay of Makati City, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano of Pasay City, Mayor Francis Zamora of San Juan City, Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna of Manila City, former Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr. of Mandaluyong City, Rep. Weslie Gatchalian of Valenzuela City, and Mayor Imelda Aguilar of Las Piñas City are the undisputable frontrunners for the 2022 mayoralty race in their respective cities.
