In celebration of World Sight Day on Oct. 14, an ophthalmic optics company reminds the public to care for their eye health.
“Our sense of sight is essential to our day to day living. But with increased screen time during the lockdown, we have pushed our eyes to the limits which may have led us to experience eye strain and eye fatigue more often,” says Jinky Navo-Palteng, marketing manager of Essilor Philippines.
“The celebration of World Sight Day reminds everyone to visit their eye doctor regularly and [maintain] good eye health habits.”
Celebrated annually on the second Thursday of October, World Sight Day aims to draw global attention to vision impairment and blindness. According to the World Health Organization, there are at least 1 billion people globally who have near or distance vision impairment “that could be prevented or has yet to be addressed”.
Vision impairment, WHO says, affects people of all ages, majority are over 50 years old.
“Vision impairment and blindness can have major and long-lasting effects on all aspects of life, including daily personal activities, interacting with the community, school and work opportunities, and the ability to access public services,” it adds.
Dr. Anthony Ayson, Essilor Philippines lens consultant, highlighted during the company’s recent virtual event, its products from brands like Varilux and Crizal that have helped improve lives with better eyesight.
To celebrate World Sight Day, Essilor is staging a series of events starting off with the EssiLove Night, a digital concert featuring Ben&Ben to raise awareness about poor vision and the need for regular eye exams. The online concert will be aired live on Essilor’s official Facebook page on Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m.
Essilor has extended its Multi Pair promo until Dec. 31 wherein customers buying one pair of prescription eyeglasses can purchase the second pair at 50 percent off.
