A 45-ton excavator mounted on a specially-designed barge moves silt and solid waste onto an 840-cubic meter hopper barge at the section of Pasig River near the Nagtahan Bridge in Manila. San Miguel Corp.’s P2-billion Pasig River rehabilitation initiative aims to remove 3 million metric tons of silt and solid waste from the tributary to help mitigate flooding in Metro Manila cities and nearby provinces. It is part of SMC’s bigger goal of cleaning up the waterways in and around Metro Manila that flow into the Manila Bay.
