Former Philippine Basketball League commissioner Chino Trinidad is returning to the basketball scene as consultant of the maiden Mindanao leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, which will unfold on June 22.
Trinidad, who used to manage the games of the PBL for four years before quitting in 2004, has been tapped by the league, following its experience involving a controversial match in the Visayas leg two months ago.
All members of the Siquijor Mystics team have been expelled, while six players and the coaching staff of the ARQ Builders-Lapu Lapu City were sanctioned following a dubious encounter last April.
Trinidad joined a virtual huddle that also featured Chooks-to-Go big boss Ronald Mascariñas and the league’s Chief Operations Officer Rocky Chan.
Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes, Women’s National Basketball League Executive Vice President Rhose Montreal, and National Basketball League Commissioner John Edward Aquino were also around.
Nine teams in Zamboanga City JPS, Alza Alayon Zamboanga, Basilan Peace Riders, Clarin Sto. Niño, Kapatagan Buffalo Braves, Iligan Archangels, Pagadian Explorers, Roxas Vanguards, the Misamis Oriental Authority will seek the Mindanao leg title.
The winner of Mindanao leg will go up against the Visayas leg champion, the KCS Computer Specialists Mandaue City, in the grand finals for the overall championship of the league in August this year.
