Inspired by the short-form video-sharing app TikTok, popular among today’s young generation, the Search for Science Tech Tok from the Youth invited high school students across the country to showcase their knowledge and showmanship tackling topics on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
“Let’s Learn and be Mahu-Sci” of Frances Sophia D. Flores, Pia Bianca B. Laxa, and Raphaelle Erika P. Victoria (Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School in Malolos City, Bulacan) bagged the first place.
“Eropla-Knows” of Jose Gabriel G. Angeles, Sam Gabriel B. Austria, and Juliane Alyssa Mae B. Bautista (Philippine Science High School – Central Luzon Campus in Angeles City, Pampanga) took the second place, followed by “How do mRNA Vaccines Work?” of Megumi Jireh Cruz, Samantha Nicole San Diego, and Rica Phoebe Jane Venturina (Carlos F. Gonzales High School in San Rafael, Bulacan)
The winning groups received cash prizes worth P20,000, P15,000, and P10,000, respectively, as well e-certificates awarded during a virtual ceremony on March 5.
The winning entries were judged based on content, originality and creativity, and visual appeal. The panel of judges consisted of Timothy James M. Dimacali, information officer at the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute; Elvira R. Galvez, education consultant at the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology; and Florencio T. Gando, Jr., senior designer and head of the Science Centrum Fabrication, Inc.’s Exhibit Development Division.
This year’s search was sponsored by DOST-SEI and PFST.
