Facing her biggest challenge yet, Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga is getting a tougher opponent this time.
With her unbeaten record at stake, Zamboanga will square off against a more experienced fighter in South Korean Seo Hee Ham in the first all-female card, ONE: Empower on May 28 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.
“This is the biggest challenge that I will face,” said the 24-year-old Zamboanga, who will clash with Ham in the first bout of the evening.
Zamboanga, who has changed training camps since her last fight in August, prepared for seven months against Ham.
She kept her umblemished record after winning by submission in Round 1 of her encounter with Watsapinya Kaewkhong last time around.
Zamboanga boasts of a spotless 7-0 record with ONE Championship.
“I know she’s a seasoned fighter. So I will be using my hands and my striking,” said Zamboanga.
Ham will be fighting her first ONE bout, is one of Asia’s most decorated mixed martial artists.
When she meets Zamboanga, the Korean will come into this contest with a 23-8 professional record and a six-bout winning streak behind her.
But Zamboanga looks ready after changing gyms and training camps, allowing her to find her form against the Korean.
“She’s very experienced. A southpaw. And I don’t have much experience fighting southpaws,” she added.
Zamboanga is seeking a chance to earn an opportunity to challenge reigning atomweight queen “Unstoppable” Angela Lee and snatch the belt from the champ in November.
