PH drops to 96th spot in e-commerce

The Philippines dropped 10 places in e-commerce readiness to 96th spot from 86th place among 152 countries in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development B2C E-commerce Index 2020.

Europe remained the most prepared region for e-commerce, but wide gaps were noted by the survey with countries with the lowest level of readiness.

“The e-commerce divide remains huge. Even among G20 countries, the extent to which people shop online ranges from 3 percent in India to 87 percent in the United Kingdom,” said UNCTAD director Shamika Sirimanne.

Switzerland led the survey, ahead of the Netherlands. The only non-European economies among the top 10 are Singapore, which ranked 4th, and Hong Kong (China) at 10th position. Other economies that made it to the top ten were Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Ireland, and Norway.
