Horror and suspense thriller aficionados are raving about Midnight In A Perfect World. Penned and directed by Dodo Dayao, the motion picture stars Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Glaiza de Castro together with Anthony Falcon and Dino Pastrano.
The quartet of actors play a group of friends who are skeptical about the current goings-on, until they suddenly get caught in a blackout and must now find a safe house to survive. During nightly blackouts that happens in various parts of the metropolis, mysterious disappearances occur and no traces of those gone are ever found.
“The film came from my dream. I combined and expanded it with personal memories of growing up and my fascination with haunted houses stories,” Dayao says of the film.
Its main story arc of building up the tension of the unknown and a horror film that is not the usual fare with a script that “read like a novel” are the main reasons why its lead stars are proud to promote the film, too.
“When I first read the script, it was like intense. Nakakapagod siyang basahin and I have not encountered a horror material like it. I felt so tired reading it pero at the same time was so excited to be Mimi, kasi she is an extra ordinary woman who happens to be so caring and giving, and courageous. Very feminine exterior with a kickass attitude,” Smith, who plays Mimi, shared.
For Glaiza, who gives life to Minka, the script answers the question about everyone’s safety, if everyone is still safe nowadays.
“I have not done someone like Minka before na feisty, almost bordering on the crazy kind of walang takot and she being in a situation na hindi mo alam what is out there when it gets dark, na ang dami mong questions, and you only get your answers when you experience that big darkness not knowing what lurks. There is nothing more terrifying than being uncertain when you go out of the safe house and face the darkness,” Glaiza related.
Completing the talented cast are Bing Pimentel, Soliman Cruz, Dolly de Leon, Charles Aaron Salazar, and Brian Sy.
Midnight In a Perfect World had its world premiere at the QCinema International Film Festival, where it was the festival’s highest grossing film.
The film is produced by Globe Studios and Epicmedia Productions and is currently streaming worldwide through UPSTREAM.ph.
