ACCIONA, a global leader in providing sustainable solutions for infrastructure and renewable energy projects, recently donated a total of 30,000 surgical face masks to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to demonstrate its support for the government and the healthcare workers in the fight to contain this pandemic.
DOTr Secretary Tugade, together with Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez, PCG Commandant Admiral Joel Garcia, and PPA General Manager Jay Santiago, warmly received the Spanish delegation led by Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Jorge Moragas along with Spanish Commercial Counsellor Pedro Pascual, Spanish Chamber of Commerce’s President Peter Hager, and Executive Director Barbara Apraiz.
During the ceremony, Sec. Tugade thanked ACCIONA for its contribution to protecting the population against COVID-19 and emphasized the important relationship he maintains with the Embassy of Spain whom he thanked for its commitment to the economic development of the country. “The relationship between Spain and the Philippines will only become firmer, stronger, and more mutually beneficial.”
Ambassador Moragas highlighted the strong commitment of Spain and its companies to the development of the Philippines, especially in the case of ACCIONA, which works closely with the country's authorities to carry out important projects that benefit millions of Filipinos. “We intend to keep working on your Build, Build, Build initiatives."
On behalf of ACCIONA, Anton Ricafort, Head of Business Development for the Construction business in the country, said, “ACCIONA, who has been operating in the Philippines since 2016, has always provided its expertise in building infrastructure projects that cater to the country’s current and future needs. We appreciate the complexity of the challenges that the COVID 19 pandemic has created globally and nationally. More importantly, we understand the importance of the Department of Transportation’s role in helping the Philippines get back on track in the post-COVID world.”
This contribution is part of ACCIONA’s global effort to help combat the effects of the global coronavirus pandemic through various collaborative actions with more than 75 public institutions and social agents around the world.
Among ACCIONA’s other initiatives in the country are a drinking water treatment plant in Muntinlupa, Putatan, which provides water to nearly one million Filipinos, and the Cebu-Córdoba bridge project, which will provide a faster connection between the main industrial area of Cebu City and the new rapidly developing areas in the city of Cordoba and in Mactan.
