Duterte to fly via Sangley in last day of office

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Saturday he will board a plane at the Sangley Airport in Cavite to go back to his home in Davao City on his last day as Malacañang’s occupant on June 30, 2022.

“I’m just two years away and I will go home and pack up and use the flight or my last flight as long as it will not go down there in the sea. I will take my last flight as President to Davao. I will use this airport,” Duterte said during the inaguration of the Sangley Airport.

The P486-million airport in Cavite was built to help decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila and was part of the administration’s key projects under the “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program.

The airport can accommodate turbo-prop aircraft for initial commercial cargo operations.

In his speech, President Duterte stressed that prudent spending is needed to complete projects that are beneficial to the people.

He also reiterated his firm stance against graft and corruption, saying he would not tolerate abuses in the bureaucracy.

“Do not try to tempt the gods of the Cabinet. Don’t do that. You will not only lose your business. You will lose not only your pants,“ Duterte said.

President Duterte also said that he will not allow land reclamation efforts by the private sector during his term, except priority government projects.

“Not during my time. I will only allow maybe plans of whatever reclamation if it is in connection with the government project. I will not allow massive reclamation for the private sector. Not now. Because if you approve one, you approve all,” he said.
