Belmont Hotel Manila marks Global Handwashing Day with community drive

Belmont Hotel Manila has announced its participation in Global Handwashing Day, joining efforts to raise awareness of the importance of proper hand hygiene in preventing disease. The initiative, part of the Global Handwashing Partnership’s global campaign, aims to promote improved hygiene practices to combat public health threats.

In collaboration with Project Pearls, a local non-profit organization focused on community service and education, Belmont Hotel Manila is distributing hand hygiene supplies such as soap and sanitizers to communities in Tondo, Bulacan, and Naic, Cavite. This effort seeks to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary to maintain clean hands and reduce the spread of illness.

As part of the campaign, Belmont Hotel Manila has installed “tippy taps,” plumbing-free handwashing stations, in Tondo. These low-cost stations encourage handwashing in areas without access to conventional water infrastructure, promoting hygiene in underserved communities.

The initiative highlights that simple handwashing is one of the most effective defenses against various health issues, including foodborne illnesses, respiratory infections, eye conditions, and diarrhea. By emphasizing proper hand hygiene, the hotel hopes to reduce the risk of illness and improve the overall health of these communities.

“Hand hygiene is a critical yet often overlooked aspect of public health,” Belmont Hotel Manila said in a statement. “Through this project, we hope to empower individuals to protect themselves and their families by adopting consistent handwashing practices.”

Belmont Hotel Manila’s support for Global Handwashing Day is part of its broader commitment to social responsibility and sustainability. By advocating for proper hand hygiene, the hotel aims to foster a culture of wellness and contribute to healthier communities.

Global Handwashing Day, observed annually on Oct. 15, emphasizes the role of handwashing in preventing the spread of diseases, particularly in the food service industry and among vulnerable populations.
