THE military is integrating diplomacy in its operations in keeping with its commitment to a “comprehensive approach to safeguarding peace and security.”
This as the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines forged a tie-up with the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to more effectively address regional security challenges.
The collaboration was formalized during a visit of an FSI team led by director general Francisco Noel Fernandez to the NOLCOM headquarters in Camp Servillano Aquino in Tarlac City..
During the meeting, NOLCOM chief Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca, underscored the importance of integrating diplomacy into the military operations.
“Our partnership with the Foreign Service Institute demonstrates our commitment to a comprehensive approach to safeguarding peace and security. By working together, we can effectively respond to threats and promote stability in the region,” Buca said.
NOLCOM briefed the FSI delegation on its extensive operational area, covering North and Central Luzon.
The NOLCOM officials highlighted their mission to protect national sovereignty and address both internal and external threats.
The briefing focused on key areas, including counterinsurgency efforts, humanitarian missions, and maritime security, particularly in sensitive regions like the West Philippine Sea.
“This meeting aligns with FSI’s research and development initiatives aimed at leveraging diplomatic expertise to support NOLCOM’s peacekeeping mission. By coordinating diplomatic efforts with NOLCOM’s operational objectives, the FSI seeks to enhance regional stability and foster international cooperation through initiatives in conflict resolution and diplomatic negotiations.” NOLCOM said.
To further strengthen the partnership, NOLCOM organized a Fun Shoot event, providing both parties an opportunity to engage in a team-building activity that fosters collaboration and synergy for future joint initiatives.
NOLCOM said it actively collaborates with other government agencies to develop effective strategies that tackle complex security challenges and promote peace, security, and community development across North and Central Luzon.
