Miss Universe Philippines 2023, Michelle Dee, has released a statement clarifying comments she made after learning that beauty queen Ahtisa Manalo, the country’s representative for the inaugural Miss Cosmo pageant, did not make it to the Top 5.
Following the results, Dee initially posted a message on her Instagram Broadcast Channel on Oct. 6, expressing disappointment and stating her belief that Manalo deserved to win.
In response to online discussions about her now-deleted statement, Dee addressed claims that she was criticizing Miss Cosmo 2024 winner Ketut Permata Juliastrid, calling such interpretations false.
“In no way would I ever discredit anyone’s destiny,” she said on her Broadcast Channel.
“I understand how my words may have been misinterpreted, but I hope this clears the air on my stance,” she added.
Dee also emphasized that while supporting representatives in such competitions, it’s important not to undermine the efforts of others.
“At the end of the day, everything happens for a reason, and no matter the outcome, we should always choose kindness and look for the lessons in between,” Dee said.
