The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) will assist in the preparation of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s (UNDRR) Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in Manila this year.
The 2024 APMCDRR Inter-Agency Committee is under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and is co-chaired by the Department of National Defense (DND) through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
“The OCD continues to fulfill its roles. We are making sure everything is in place for the APMCDRR 2024, with Defense Secretary Teodoro and DENR Secretary Loyzaga guiding us,” OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said.
The DND-OCD chairman is a member of several sub-committees and the Conference Management Committee. He is also a member of the Program and Host Country Priorities; Security, Order, and Emergency Preparedness and Response Committee; and Logistics, Infrastructure, and Transport Committee.
The OCD participated in the APMCDRR media launch held on Thursday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
The inter-agency committee has been implementing its work plan in preparation for the conference.
The committee also organized a series of Skills Enhancement Training sessions for Liaison and Conference Officers of the APMCDRR.
The liaison officers participated in training to improve their support and coordination services for the administrative and logistical needs of the Ministers, Heads of Delegations, and other delegates.
Conference officers received training to oversee logistics and operations at conference venues, offering direct assistance to delegates.
The APMCDRR is a biennial conference organized by (UNDRR). It serves as a platform for global leaders to address issues related to disaster risk and foster coordination and cooperation in implementing the Sendai Framework in the Asia-Pacific region.
