Honda Cars Philippines has introduced its groundbreaking e:HEV hybrid system to the local market not too long ago. Launched with the RS variant of the All-New CR-V in September 2023, the e:HEV technology is a game-changer, boasting impressive performance and environmental benefits.
At the heart of the e:HEV system is a powerful combination of two electric motors – the Traction Motor and the Generator Motor – which together deliver 184 PS and 335 Nm of torque. This electrified powertrain is mated to a new 2.0-liter Direct Injection Atkinson Cycle engine, providing an additional 148 PS and 183 Nm of torque. The seamless integration of the electric and gasoline components allows the e:HEV to achieve outstanding driving pleasure and exceptional environmental performance.
The e:HEV’s intelligence shines through its three distinct driving modes: EV Drive Mode, Hybrid Drive Mode, and Engine Drive Mode. In EV Drive Mode, the vehicle runs solely on battery power, offering a quiet and emissions-free driving experience. In Hybrid Drive Mode, the engine primarily acts as a generator, supplying power to the battery and/or traction motor. Engine Drive Mode utilizes the gasoline engine as the main power source. This smooth and seamless transition between modes allows the system to optimize power delivery and fuel efficiency for various driving conditions, creating a more comfortable experience for both the driver and passengers.
One of the standout features of the e:HEV is its self-charging capability. The system’s regenerative braking and traction motor can harvest energy from braking and deceleration, recovering friction losses and extending the car’s electric driving range. The engine can also act as a generator, keeping the battery primed for action and further optimizing fuel economy.
