“These bike lanes stand to benefit 1.9 million cyclists, tourists, students and other stakeholders,” Lim said.

The transport agency launched 9.6 kilometers of bike lanes in March.

Lim said the bike lanes would play an important role in wooing tourists in Intramuros for using offering guided tours using bicycles.

“The active transport project here in Intramuros has become unique because tourists were being offered guided tours around the historical landmarks while riding bicycles. We call it cycling tours,” he said.

The active transport infrastructure, built in partnership with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and Intramuros Administration, also includes pedestrian walkways, with PWD-accessibility ramps, open spaces and construction of four public transport stops.

The Intramuros bike lanes are part of the 2,400 kilometers of bike lanes to be established by the DOTr by year 2028.
