New Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya expressed his readiness to immediately `roll up the sleeves and buckle down to work’ to further enhance the Philippines-Japan Strategic Partnership as he begins his tour of duty in Manila.
The newly-appointed envoy arrived in Manila last Thursday, March 14, to take over the responsibilities of former Japanese Ambassador to Manila Koshikawa Kazuhiko, who ended his term last March 5.
“Mabuhay! I’ve just touched down in the Philippines. Ready to dive in, collaborate with the dynamic Filipino community, and elevate our relations. I’m committed to building even stronger ties between our nations. Maraming salamat po!” the new Japanese envoy posted on X (formerly Twitter).
To better endear him towards the Filipino community, the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines encourages the public to address their new ambassador as ‘kuya’ (older brother in Tagalog), placing the #KuyaKazuya in his official X account.
Endo shared his goal of expanding diplomatic ties between Tokyo and Manila. He also expressed good impressions about the Philippines, having visited the country during his term as director-general of the International Cooperation Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Japanese diplomat was part of the delegation of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio when he visited the Philippines last November 2023. During this trip, Endo said he “witnessed firsthand the dynamic and vibrant nature of Japan-Philippine relations.”
“The robust ties binding our nations have set the stage for ‘the golden age’ of the Strategic Partnership. Our relations are expanding in various areas, from the economy and security to cultural and people-to-people exchanges,” Endo said.
His fellow diplomats from the United States and United Kingdom also extended their warm welcome to the new Japanese ambassador by replying to his post.
“Welcome to the Philippines! You’re going to love it here!” US Ambassador to Manila MaryKay Carlson said.
“Welcome to the (Philippines), ambassador. I’m your (UK) next door neighbor and look forward to meeting you very soon!!,” British Ambassador to Manila Laura Beaufils commented.
