Starring Thai superstars Bright Vachirawit (Sarawat) and Win Metawin (Tine), the hit boy love (BL) show, 2gether The Series, was born out of the author’s love for the alternative pop-rock duo, Scrubb.
Four years later after the series’ success, the band made its debut concert on Feb. 10 at 123 Block in Mandaluyong City as part of its Asia tour.
Consisting of Thawatpon “Muey” Wongboonsiri and Torpong “Ball” Chantabubpha, Scrubb brought some of the beloved songs that were used in the series as soundtracks to finally perform live in front of hundreds of Filipino fans, whom you could easily identify as hardcore fans as most of them were wearing black and white jerseys.
They opened their concert by singing “Everything” (Thuk Yang). Suddenly, it felt like we were back in 2020 again – it’s pandemic and fans were eagerly waiting for Friday night to come to finally watch the latest episode of that BL series.
The song was followed by more familiar tracks such as “Khor” (Asking For), “Klai” (Close), and “Luek Luek” (Deep).
Muey and Ball were amazed at how the crowd could sing with them perfectly lyric by lyric. Maybe that’s what made the Manila concert even more special—that each person was able to sing with them.
The crowd screamed at the top of their lungs upon hearing the first beats of “Koo Gan” (Soulmate), remembering familiar scenes from the series.
Fans were treated to more performances as they sang and grooved to the songs “Khon Nee” (This Person), “Roy Yim” (Your Smile), “Hai Thur” (For You”, “Tur Mun Rop Chun, Chun Mun Rop Ter” (You Revolve Around Me, I Revolve Around You), “Khamtop” (Answer), and “Khao Kan Di” (Click).
The concert was supposed to end with the song “Click” but to celebrate their first gig in the Philippines, Scrubb returned to sing more of their songs which delighted the fans.
During the second part of the show, the band sang “Kep Man Wao Ai” (Keep It), “Ruk Nirun” (Eternal Love), and “See Scape”.
Scrubb ended the Manila leg of the Asia tour singing “Close” for the second time.
“If you listen to Scrubb’s songs when you’re happy, you will be even happier. If you listen when you are in love, you will be more deeply in love. And if you listen to their songs when you are sad, you will feel better.”
Now, we finally understand what Tine meant when he said this to Sarawat in episode four of the series. Every Scrubb song possessed a certain magic, carrying emotions deep within its melodies. Even though the lyrics might sound foreign to some Filipinos, they evoke powerful feelings – happiness, familiarity, nostalgia, love, comfort, and a sense of home.
Scrubb took to its Instagram to thank the Filipino fans for giving each of them a night to remember.
“We don’t have the words to express how grateful we are for what we see in front of us. You guys are amazing,” it wrote.
“We have made our last tour of Southeast Asia as complete as possible, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We love you all. SALAMAT PO!!!” it added.
Presented by Gabi Na Naman Productions, Scrubb: Live in Manila also featured Senior High star Elijah Canlas and indie singer Toneejay, who served as the concert’s opening acts.
