The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) and the Association of Southeast Asian Electric Vehicle Associations (AFEVA) recently engaged with VinFast executives in Hanoi, Vietnam, to explore the establishment of a Vietnam Electric Vehicle Association. The strategic meeting on August 18, 2023 aimed to enhance collaboration and advance the vision of sustainable electric mobility in the region.
Led by EVAP President Edmund Araga and AFEVA Director Dennis Chuah, the delegation included key figures like EVAP Chairman Rommel Juan and Chairman Emeritus Ferdi Raquelsantos. Mr. Rico Mariano, Philippine Commercial Counsellor to Vietnam, facilitated the dialogue.
During the session, President Edmund Araga presented the Philippines’ EV industry’s current state and potential, while Chairman Rommel Juan highlighted incentives from the Electric Vehicle Industry and Driving Act (EVIDA). Chairman Emeritus Ferdi Raquelsantos emphasized the incentives tied to electric E-jeepney production, underscoring the potential of electric mobility.
Advancements were shared during the meeting to broaden perspective towards international standards and infrastructures. The discussions were crucial for the potential Vietnam Electric Vehicle Association, aligning with AFEVA’s goals for regional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and technological exchange. In addition, VinFast executives expressed interest in the upcoming Electric Vehicle Summit in the Philippines from October 19 to 21, a platform gathering industry leaders to discuss trends and challenges.
This exchange among EVAP, AFEVA, and VinFast marks a pivotal step in advancing electric mobility in Southeast Asia. It reflects their shared commitment to sustainable transportation and a greener future.
