PH, Brunei seal accord on joint anti-illegal drugs campaign

To ramp up cooperation in combatting illicit traffic and abuse of narcotic drugs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has partnered with the Brunei Darussalam’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after a decade of bilateral talks and coordination.

PDEA director general Moro Virgilio Lazo and NCB director Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani forged a memorandum of understanding at the PDEA headquarters in Quezon City.

The memorandum focuses on cooperation in combating illicit traffic and abuse on narcotic drugs—those listed in the schedules annexed to the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, psychotropic substances.

It also promotes cooperation between the NCB and PDEA through information exchange and collaboration in investigations involving nationals of both countries, including investigations related to money laundering activities as well as investigations on trafficking, smuggling, retail and other aspects of the drug trade.

As part of the exposure visit of the Brunei delegation, the group visited the Dangerous Drugs Board, ASEAN Training Center for Preventive Drug Education and Department of Health’s Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
