PRO Cordillera honors 3 retiring police dogs

Three retiring police dogs received honors from the men and women of Police Regional Office Cordillera during the “Salamat Kapatid and Kaibigan Program” at Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet on August 26.

Police Col. Elmer E. Ragay led the retirement honors ceremony and presented Certificates of Recognition and treats to the canine honorees Gordon, Wanda, and Bullet.

Gordon and Wanda are both Asong Pinoy (Aspin) who served the Philippine National Police for more than seven years as Combat Tracking Dogs (CTD).

As the highlight of their accomplishments as CTDs, Gordon and Wanda helped in locating a missing Korean national in Barlig, Mt. Province, in 2017.

They also helped in the Search and Rescue/Retrieval operations during the landslide in Sitio Sakrang, Brgy. Banawel, Natonin, Mt. Province in 2018. They both were dispatched during the armed encounter in Tadian, Mt. Province, which led to the discovery of harboring areas and escape routes of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

Bullet, also an Aspin, served the PNP for more than six years as a Search and Rescue Dog (SARD).

As the highlight of his accomplishments, in the aftermath of typhoon “Ompong”, Bullet located four casualties in Brgy. Ucab, Itogon, Benguet, and was awarded the “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” given by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

In 2019, Bullet was tasked in a SAR operation to locate two missing teenagers who were swept away by raging waters in a creek at Lower Wangal in 2021. The dog was also dispatched to locate three missing persons who were buried in a landslide in Brgy. Dominican-Mirador, Baguio City during the onslaught of typhoon “Maring”.

Likewise, Ragay awarded Medalya ng Kasanayan (PNP Efficiency Medal) to PSSg Elizer Pe, Gordon’s handler; PSSg Arthur Bayangan, Wanda’s handler; and PMSg Arman Acangan, Bullet’s handler for guiding and training the three canines.

After their retirement, the police service dogs are set for new homes and ready for adoption.
