DPWH: P19.2-m San Juanico bridge project completed

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed construction of a P19.2- million view-deck and boardwalk in Tacloban City, showcasing the city’s iconic landmark, the San Juanico Bridge.

DPWH Region 8 Director Allan Borromeo said the project involves the construction of a 450-meter suspended deck slab, 80-meter walkway, and landscaping works to complement the new tourist attraction.

Also part of the project is the provision of comfort rooms and a storage room for the solar generator that will be used to lessen its maintenance costs and energy consumption.

The completion of the view-deck has allowed locals and visitors to safely take photos, do recreational activities, and help generate livelihood opportunities for the people in Leyte.

Prior to the construction of the view-deck, tourists used to drive up to San Juanico Bridge and stop at the side of the road just to take pictures, in the process obstructing traffic flow in the area and posing risks to the travelers.

As implemented by DPWH – Tacloban City District Engineering Office, the new tourism structure was completed with funding from the 2021 General Appropriations Act.
