Rody to grace June 12 rites for last time

President Rodrigo Duterte will be physically present in leading the commemoration of the country’s 124th Independence Day on June 12 in Rizal Park.

An advisory sent by the Palace to reporters on Friday said Duterte will be gracing the Independence Day commemoration rites themed “Kalayaan 2022: Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas.”

The occasion will mark the last time Duterte will be leading the event as President since his term of office ends on June 30.

Meanwhile, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Acting Secretary Jim O. Sampulna said the Manila Bay Dolomite Beach will be reopened to the public on June 12 coinciding with the country’s celebration of Independence Day.

Initially scheduled to reopen in May, the DENR has moved the date as some infrastructures have yet to be finished in the area.

“We are excited to open the dolomite beach to the public again on June 12. This is the good legacy of the Duterte administration, that’s why we really aim to open it before President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s term ends,” said Sampulna.

Also, commuters will get to board Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 for free on June 12, in celebration of the country’s 124th Independence Day.

In a statement, LRT1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) said passengers of the railway line will enjoy free rides on June 12 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

On the other hand, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced that free rides will be implemented at the LRT2 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The MRT3 also implements free rides for the entire month of June to ease the financial burden of commuters amid the spike in petroleum prices.

Last year, Duterte attended the Independence Day celebrations in Malolos City, Bulacan, the home of the first Philippine Republic.

The President will also be present in the naming and commissioning of BRP Melchora Aquino in Port Area, Manila on the same day.

Duterte will then proceed to the lowering of the tunnel boring machine, as well as train demonstration and unveiling of the Philippine Railways Institute Interim Simulator Training Center of the Metro Manila Subway Project in Valenzuela City, according to the advisory.
