It’s going to be an exciting year for young singers Lyca Gairanod and Jehramae Trangia.
Lyca has the support of Viva Records in her bid to stardom while Jehramae is being introduced by the record label as one of its most promising stars.
Without trying too hard, Lyca became one of 2021’s biggest sensations with the release of her first single with Viva Records titled “Akala Ko Ba.”
The song didn’t exactly become a mainstream hit (yet a fan-favorite for sure), it was the gateway to Lyca’s collaboration with fellow Viva Records artist Bandang Lapis.
She recorded an acoustic version of Bandang Lapis’ breakout hit “Kabilang Buhay” on the latter’s acoustic-themed EP. And when Lyca did a solo version of the same song on the popular roving stage platform, Wishbus, the song became a viral hit. To date, her performance is one of the biggest songs of 2021 on the Wish’ YouTube channel with over 14 million views as of this writing.
Then there was her duet with her younger sister Hannah. They uploaded their rendition of “Lason Mong Halik” on Facebook and the result was more than 5 million views as fans and netizens alike gushed about what great singers these siblings are.
And who will ever forget the line “kelan ang birthday mo? Nov. 21…oh my god! Birthday ko yun!” bit with Karen Davila that just went crazy, TikTok viral.
“I’m just happy with all the opportunities given to me this year. I’m thankful for the support I’m getting from people and I hope they support my dream to become a versatile music artist,” the 17-year-old singer told Manila Standard Entertainment in a virtual interview.
Just recently Lyca released a new single titled “Malapit Na Akong Mahulog Sa’yo.” A nice yearning love song for the teen singer.
Meanwhile, up-and-coming teen singer Jehramae looks forward to the new year as she expects big and exciting new things when it comes to her music career. At 18, she’s long been working hard to get to the point where she is right now.
The most visible of those efforts was when she made her stunning professional debut in Born To Be A Star, in which she eventually won the grand prize of said singing competition this year back in May. It’s the same singing tilt that produced a young Sarah Geronimo. This is to say that skill-wise, Jehramae is made of the same star-stuff. Apparently, Sarah is a big influence on Jehramae.
“Since I began singing, Miss Sarah Geronimo has been an inspiration to me. She became my role model in singing because she is such an icon. She can dance, she can act, she can host. I mean, is there anything she can’t do? She’s completely idol material and hopefully, soon I could get to collaborate with her.”
Signed to Viva Records right after winning BTBAS, as a recording artist in early 2021, Jehramae released two quick singles to announce her debut. The well-received “Lumalapit” – a cover of a popular The Juans song – and her first original recording titled “Magparaya,” written by veteran composer Vehnee Saturno.
“What excites me the most about my music career is getting to meet a lot of talented artists from all over the country, and it’s such an honor to be able to share my experiences with them while also allowing people to hear my music and craft. Singing a song by Mr. Vehnee Saturno, for example, is a humbling experience,” Jehramae said who added that she’s also open to acting in front of the camera.
