Troops from the Army’s 4th and 80th Infantry Battalions discovered arms caches in Quezon Province and Oriental Mindoro.
Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrex Molina, Chief of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) Division Public Affairs Office, reported that soldiers from the Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion (80IB) recovered the arms cache belonging to the terrorist New People’s Army (NPA) in an isolated area in So. Madaki, Barangay Umiray, within the town of General Nakar in Quezon.
According to Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Ruby, the commanding officer of the 80IB, the cache included two M16 rifles, an M4 carbine, an M203 grenade launcher, two improvised shotguns, an improvised M14 rifle, two bandoliers, three long magazines for the M16, six short magazines for the M16, and numerous rounds of ammunition. This discovery followed a tip-off from a civilian who revealed the location of the buried war materials.
Molina said that with community support, the 2ID will continue its efforts to eradicate remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in the region and work towards achieving stable internal peace and security in Southern Tagalog.
Meanwhile, due to ongoing collaboration with various security partners, troops from the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) uncovered another arms cache in So. Darayao, Brgy Panaytayan, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.
A report sent to headquarters indicated that troops from the 4th Infantry Battalion (4IB) were conducting security operations in the area when a local resident reported the location of buried war materials.
This cache contained an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, an upper receiver of a Garand rifle, a shotgun, three magazines for an M16 rifle with 136 rounds of ammunition, three magazines for an M14 rifle with 44 rounds of ammunition, and two blasting caps..
All recovered war materials are currently under the custody of the respective Army units for proper disposition.
