Thailand on Tuesday filed an appeal before the World Trade Organization which earlier issued a favorable ruling for the Philippines over a cigarette tax case.
Officials said the details of the appeal would be revealed in the next few days.
The Philippines filed another report with the WTO on Thailand’s inability to oblige to the global body’s ruling.
The WTO decided to favor the Philippine case in the cigarette tax issue against Thailand. It asked Thailand to implement a fair valuation scheme for imported cigarettes brought in by Philip Morris Thailand from Philip Morris Philippines in the last 14 to 16 years and to refund the excess tax collected by the Thai Customs Department.
The Philippines found it difficult to make Thailand comply with an international dictum, without prejudice to international trade and without putting into jeopardy the bilateral relations between the two countries.
