No new method had been tried by the people behind the massively successful Hello, Love, Goodbye in ensuring that the audience would experience some of the most intense and captivating performances of young actors in a film. They just endeavored to present an “ordinary story” where the characters stayed true to their emotions. And Alden Richards, one of the stars of the film, couldn’t agree more.
For the 27-year-old Kapuso actor, it’s the bittersweet tale of Joy and Ethan that makes them so relatable. Their dilemmas and their passion to love make them genuine and universal characters — which anyone, of any social status, gender, or even nationality, can understand.
“It’s really how we were able to tell a great story. It’s really the material. Personally, the film inspired me to do more films that are current, films that tackle the daily lives of people,” Alden said in an interview.
“Being an actor, being seen on TV and cinemas, that’s our way of telling a story. It’s our way to showcase the lives of people here in the Philippines and around the world,” he added.
Now that the film has raked in more than P700 million (domestic and international box office gross combined), the actor couldn’t help but feel stoked for the cast and the people behind the movie.
“I couldn’t believe it, that’s the highest gross that any of my movies, that I became part of, has ever reached. So, it’s a cloud-nine feeling for me,” Alden shared adding that he and the cast and crew have a Viber group where they are kept updated on the film’s box office performance.
With the film turning a profit, and fans clamoring for a sequel, Alden believes that everything will happen in proper timing. Still, his crossing his fingers with great optimism.
“I’m looking forward to it but we all know that the director will go on a break. And there have to be negotiations between two parties before it can happen,” Alden told Manila Standard.
Keep yourself protected campaign
Meanwhile, the Kapuso actor has recently participated in a Facebook live organized by Watsons Philippines. Alden was among the roster of stars including Matteo Guidicelli, Yassi Pressman, and Sam YG that rallied for the brand’s “Keep Yourself Protected” campaign.
The campaign stresses that going out of the house is like going to battle. First, we face the stresses brought about by the daily commute and traffic. Then there are environmental pollutants. We also need to face the harsh weather—you leave the house when it’s sunny and very hot and humid and an hour later, it’s raining heavily. The rainy season also brings additional health concerns.
