Actress and YouTube star Donnalyn Bartolome describes “Di Lahat,” her latest music video launched on YouTube, as a song that aims to break classic double standards.
The track, culled from her 2018 album Surprise, has now gone viral. In particular, on popular video sharing platform YouTube. To date, “Di Na Lahat” has more than two million views and rising since it was uploaded on YT the same day as the Independence Day holiday (June 12).
“I wanted to write a positive song about women. It’s like a version 2.0 of my previous song where I talk to men on how to take care of women. We here a lot of negative songs about us, so I think we need more positivity especially in music,” Donnalyn said in a press conference held at Viva office on Thursday.
Perhaps it’s the message. In the song, she goes ‘Di lahat ng magaganda ay sasaktan ka lang / Minsan kung sino pang walang karapatan ang ganyan / Kaya ‘wag mong husgahan / Kung ‘di mo pa nasubukan.’ And even name-drops a popular actor-rapper when she went, “Sorry Andrew E iba na ang panahon,” which a direct reference to the former’s “Humanap Ka Ng Panget.”
Basically, the song contradicts the notion that pretty girls are only out to break hearts. As compared to when men do it and brush it off by saying it’s normal. Classic double standards.
Donnalyn is no stranger to status: trending. The pretty, pixie-sized star began her career posting trendy video challenges, doing vlogs and just basically entertaining her sizeable following on all the popular platforms. And ever since she made her music debut with her first ever hit, “Kakaibabe,” she has been dubbed as the ‘social media sweetheart.’
But if the song’s message and content didn’t hit its viewers, perhaps the music video did.
Donnalyn had a knockout plan for “’Di Lahat.” Besides the catchy electro-pop-tinged vibe of the track, the music video has star-studded cameos that include Nadine Lustre, Alex Gonzaga, Sue Ramirez, Yassi Pressman, and Anne Curtis.
“I personally messaged them to be part of the music video. Anne Curtis for example, I didn’t expect that she would say yes to this invitation but I was surprised that she said yes immediately. With others, I’m extremely glad that they also agreed to be in it [MV]. I tried to ask more people but their schedule didn’t permit it,” Donnalyn said of the brief, but effective appearances of other stars on the music video.
Donnalyn has a large following in social media —4.7 Million page likes on Facebook, more than 1.3 million followers on Instagram. Besides her hits “Kakaibabe,” “Pag Siya,” and “Happy Breakup,” she produced a DIY full length movie entitled “Happy Breakup” which she released on Youtube which to date has 11 Million views and growing.
“Di Lahat” is on Spotify, Apple Music, and all streaming platforms. The music video, with all those star cameo’s is on Donnalyn’s official YouTube channel.
