Makati rewards 2,014 honor graduates of public schools with cash incentives, laptops

The city government of Makati has granted cash incentives ranging from P6,000 to P10,000 to some 2,014 honor graduates from the city’s public elementary and senior high schools for school year 2018-2019.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay led the Gawad Parangal ceremony held on June 18 and 19 at the A. Venue Hotel along Makati Avenue, where she handed each awardee a voucher for claiming the cash incentive at the Cash Division at City Hall. She also raffled off 60 brand new laptops among them.

The mayor congratulated the honor graduates and commended their parents for their children’s achievements.

“Congratulations to our public school students who graduated with honors in the past school year! We also thank and honor their parents and guardians for having raised them well. They have helped us cultivate excellence and good character which are essential to their development as great leaders of the future,” Mayor Abby said.

City schools division superintendent Rita Riddle said the cash incentives were given as follows: P6,000 each for those who graduated with honors; P8,000 for those with high honors; and P10,000 for those with the highest honors.

The Gawad Parangal last June 18 was attended by three batches of honor graduates from the city’s public elementary and senior high schools under the supervision of DepEd Makati.

Last June 19, all 756 honor graduates from the Higher School ng UMak (HSU), the senior high school under the auspices of the city-run University of Makati, joined the fourth and fifth batches under DepEd at the ceremony. In all, there were 733 honor graduates in elementary and 525 in senior high school under DepEd Makati.

Honored graduates were given cash incentives worth P10,000 with the highest honor, P8,000 with high honor while P6,000 for those with honors.

Based on DepEd Makati’s records for elementary, East Rembo Elementary School (ES) had the most number of honor graduates, one with high honors and 65 with honors. It was followed by Rizal ES, one with high honors and 63 with honors, while Comembo ES and Pembo ES tied at 61 awardees each. Comembo produced three with high honors and 58 with honors; and Pembo ES, two with high honors and 59 with honors.

Fort Bonifacio ES, two with high honors and 56 with honors; Cembo ES, two with high honors and 31 with honors; Palanan ES, 28 with honors; La Paz ES, one with high honors, 25 with honors; Francisco Benitez III, 39 with honors; Cembo ES, two with high honors and 31 with honors; South Cembo ES, two with high honors and 28 with honors; Jose Magsaysay ES, 24 with honors; and Pitogo ES, two with high honors and 22 with honors.

On the other hand, Bangkal ES had 23 with honors; San Jose ES, one with high honors and 22 with honors; West Rembo ES, 22 with honors; Hen. Pio del Pilar ES (Main), 20 with honors; Nicanor Garcia ES, 19 with honors; Guadalupe Viejo ES, one with high honors and 16 with honors; Makati ES, 16 with honors; Hen. Pio del Pilar ES I, 16 with honors; Nemesio I. Yabut ES, one with high honors and 14 with honors; Francisco Benitez ES, 14 with honors; San Antonio Village ES, 14 with honors; Maximo Estrella ES, 13 with honors; and Bangkal ES I, seven with honors.

For senior high school, HSU had four with high honors and 752 with honors; Makati Science High School, four with high honors and 154 with honors; Makati High School, 10 with high honors and 120 with honors; Pitogo High School, 13 with high honors and 58 with honors; Benigno Aquino High School, 44 with high honors and six with honors; senior high in Nemesio I. Yabut ES, four with high honors and 43 with honors; Fort Bonifacio High School, 39 with honors; and senior high in Maximo Estrella ES, five with high honors and 25 with honors.

Students were also given 60 new laptops for their study.

In 2018, the city awarded cash incentives to some 1,799 honor graduates from its public elementary and high schools.
