The Department of Science and Technology said Wednesday the Philippines’ first locally made hybrid electric train would start commercial operations on May 6.
The air-conditioned train, which will run on technology similar to Toyota Prius hybrid cars, can accommodate 880 passengers per trip and was designed and built by DOST engineers and local fabricators.
DOST’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development, which developed the train, said the Philippine National Railways would run it on the Alabang-Biñan route.
