“I had goosebumps!” said Shido Roxas who has a kissing scene with co-star Ross Pesigan in the upcoming Metro Manila Filmfest entry Rainbow Sunset.
In a brief interview with the neophyte actor at a restaurant in Quezon City recently, Roxas who is playing the young man of the elderly gay character played by iconic actor Eddie Garcia in the filmfest entry, intimated to members of the press that though he knew there would be a scene that required him and his co-player Ross (who plays the younger version of the character being played by Tony Mabesa), he didn’t have an inkling on how two males kiss, albeit passionately.
“Ross and I just had to do it because direk Joel Lamangan warned us that it could require several takes if we didn’t do it right. I wasn’t quite sure if I’d like to have an extended kissing scene with a fellow actor so, I gave it my all.”
The 27-year-old economics major (DLSU) and who has a masters degree in international management at a Japanese university (after junking the idea of going to law school in Manila) has dodged acting and modeling offers when he was in his teens.
“I was a very shy guy then,” he admitted. Which he has since overcome.
According to Joel Lamangan, Shido was cast to play the young Tony Mabesa. But after carefully looking at his looks, he decided to give him the young Eddie Garcia role.
How did he psyche himself up to stand up to the test of Lamangan in the kissing scene?
He watched old films of Eddie Garcia, also the gay-themed films, like Lihis with Jake Cuenca and Joem Bascon.
Joel said he had to shoot it in one take so their egos wouldn’t be deflated.
So, what did you feel when Lamangan shouted “Cut!”?
“I was catatonic for a little while and had goosebumps all over. If the script calls for it and if the scene is justified, I guess as an actor you just have to do it. But if only to get the audience titillated, I’d say no, perhaps,” the LVD talent ended.

Ferry said the award “challenged me to sustain my quest for excellence in the field for which I was recognized” and made her more “others-centric.”
The award “made me more conscious of my responsibilities to others— being fair in my dealings with people and not knowingly causing them harm,” Bernardo said.
