Aboitiz Power Corp. is in talks with G.E. Digital and other energy technology service providers to increase the reliability and availability of coal-fired plants.
“Discussions are ongoing with G.E. for our coal facilities. But we are not limiting our options to just GE. We are evaluating others service providers,” Aboitiz Power chief operating officer Emmanuel Rubio said.
Rubio said the move was part of the company’s “future proofing” aimed at ensuring that the company’s coal plant portfolio’s operations were at par with international standards.
“We are looking at ways of enhancing our capabilities for predictive analytics. We already have things in place but we want to expand the capability. The objective is to improve further our availability and reliability, which is already quite good and better than industry standards,” Rubio said.
He said the company was initially starting with the coal plants of unit Therma South Inc. in Mindanao. Therma South owns the 300-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Davao City and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur province.
