Mayor John Rey Tiangco noted the need for additional trucks for efficient garbage collection of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The city now has 13 dump trucks that collect residual wastes from 18 barangays.

From January to June this year, CENRO collected 147,224.61 cubic meters of garbage, of which 97,940.80 cubic meters were transported to the Navotas sanitary landfill, Tiangco said. Others were recycled or made into compost.

Navotas is the only city in Metro Manila that has its own landfill. Last year, the local government earned around P30 million in tipping fees for its garbage collection.

Earlier, the city participated in the Waste Assessment and Brand Audit led by the Mother Earth Foundation that sought to teach Navoteños the importance of waste segregation at home.

Navotas has a memorandum of agreement with Mother Earth for the implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program.

The city also partnered with Caritas Kalookan and Catholic Relief Services to carry out the Municipal Waste Recycling Program in four barangays—Daanghari, San Jose, San Roque, and Tangos South.
