At least 100 persons deprived of liberty were transferred over the weekend from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) reported Sunday.
In a news release, the agency said the move was made to decongest the NBP.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang, Jr. said the PDLs were escorted by 30 corrections officers with assistance from the agency’s SWAT (special weapons and tactics) team, the Philippine National Police and South Luzon Expressway Patrol.
Of the 100 PDLs, 20 are from the Reception and Diagnostic Center and 80 from the Medium Security Camp. They left the NBP on Saturday night and arrived safely at SPPF early morning Sunday, according to the BuCor.
