Assailants onboard a closed van fired at them, police said.

The police identified the victims as jail personnel Jelanie Almario, Randy Pantano, and Nelson Padagdag.

A source said Aro was heading to Tacloban to catch a flight out of town.

The ambush happened after the formal turnover ceremony of the new corrections chief at the prison facility at around 9 am.

Based on the Bureau of Corrections special order dated July 25 signed by Director Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Aro is being transferred to Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Mindoro Occidental.

Replacing Aro is Corrections Chief Superintendent Danilo Dador, according to the special order published by BuCor’s website.
