GREG Slaughter will continue to miss more games for Barangay Ginebra.
According to Gin Kings’ coach Tim Cone himself, the team just found out that it has to play the first part of the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup without its potent big man due to his continuing problems with his sprained ankle.
“We just learned about a bad news that Greg Slaughter will miss the first half of the Commissioner’s Cup due to his injury,” said Cone.
This injury already caused Slaughter to miss the entire playoffs of the season-opening Philippine Cup where he could’ve given Ginebra a much-needed boost.
Further, it might have cost the Gin Kings a better chance against mighty San Miguel Beer in the semifinals of the Philippine Cup, where they struggled to contain reigning Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo.
Cone said that his squad is in the process of digesting the development and seeking a direction as it prepares for the second conference.
“Right now, we still have more than 20 days to figure out which direction we can go for the next conference without Greg,” he said.
Slaughter was projected to play midway that series but that never came to fruition as Cone admitted that it is taking a long time for his ankle to heal up.
Also, Ginebra will still have to play several games without resident import Justin Brownlee as he is still finishing his stint with Alab Pilipinas in the Asean Basketball league playoffs.
Shane Edwards is the team’s temporary import, while it waits for Brownlee’s availability.
As of this report, the Beermen are doing their best to seal a four-peat and win their fourth straight Philippine Cup title against Magnolia in Game 5 of their championship showcase.
San Miguel, currently ahead 3-1, only needs a single game to once again reign supreme and make history.
