A local executive of Boracay on Wednesday lamented that the national government has yet to come up with a plan on what to do during the proposed six-month closure of the island resort.
Municipal executive assistant for Boracay affairs Rowen Aguirre said he is opposed to the planned closure of the island.
“Total closure became the first option instead of the last. There was no opportunity to explore other options,” Aguirre said in a television interview.
“This is our problem now. We are looking for their plan because obviously they did not think this through. We are crafting our contingency plan just now because we thought the national government, especially the agencies who proposed the closure, already know what to do. But they do not have any plan. They can’t even send a work plan,” he added.
Local government executives in Boracay have prepared a six-month action plan for the rehabilitation, and not closure, of the island.
The departments of the environment, interior, and tourism have recommend the closure of Boracay for six months, starting on April 26.
