QUEZON City Mayor Herbert Bautista has ordered barangays lying along the West Valley Fault and neighboring communities to undergo a training on earthquake landslide search and rescue orientation course.
He recently tasked the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to conduct the workshop involving 73 barangay officials who have completed 32 hours of basic training.
The participants lauded Bautista for giving theA the opportunity to gain more knowledge on how to help their constituents once a powerful quake strikes the West Valley fault line.
“The earthquake landslide search and rescue orientation training program are a big help for us, especially that our barangay is one of the neighbors of barangays transacted by the West Valley Fault. For sure, we will be affected by ‘the big one’ or if not so, we can still help other affected barangays. All barangay officials of Quezon City, especially the barangay chairpersons must attend trainings like this,” Barangay Escopa I chairman Marvin Morales said.
Barangays transacted by the fault line are Bagong Silangan, Batasan Hills, Bagumbayan, Blue Ridge B, Libis, Old Balara, Pansol, Ugong Norte and White Plains.
The training was designed to equip barangay officials in hazards and disaster management, particularly on collapsed structures search and rescue operations, and extricating and caring of victims,
“Our main objective is to teach the barangay officials on how to properly respond during calamities, especially when earthquake happened. There are a lot of structures that could collapse and having an at least basic knowledge to lift the slabs will be of big help to manage the injury of the victim,” the city government said.
