Spotlight on coaches at Jr NBA Presented by Alaska launch

COACHES took center stage during the launch of the JrNBA/WNBA Philippines 2018 Presented by Alaska last weekend at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati.

The highlight of the event was the Coaches Clinic conducted by NBA coaches Carlos Barroca and Rob Newson for 200 local coaches who hoped to learn the latest trends, rules and changes in international basketball.

The NBA coaches shared coaching principles, tips and basketball plays with their local counterparts, with JrNBA and JrWNBA All-Star alumni serving as demo players to execute the basketball moves.

The league’s global youth basketball participation program is free and open to boys and girls ages 10-14 throughout its four stages: Skills Clinics in schools and communities, Regional Selection Camps, a National Training Camp and an NBA experience trip. Since its launch in 2007, JrNBA clinics have been implemented in 110 cities and municipalities across the country and the 2018 program will return to key provinces including Agusan Del Norte, Batangas, Benguet, Cavite, Misamis Oriental, and Negros Occidental.

NBA Philippines Managing Director Carlo Singson, together with Alaska Milk Corporation Managing Director Marco Bertacca led the launch along with representatives from Alaska Milk, JrNBA alumni and coaches who participated in the one day seminar.

The annual search for young and talented ballers is underway as the 2018 edition of the JrNBA/WNBA Philippines Presented by Alaska was launched over the weekend.

The JrNBA/WNBA Philippines program teaches the fundamental skills and core values of the game at the grassroots level. It is open to the youth 10-14 years old. JrNBA travels around key cities in the country to conduct open clinics and hold the Regional Selection Camps.

Selected boys and girls in the Regional Selection Camps are brought to Manila to participate in the National Selection Camp. The top players get the chance to be named in the All-star team and participate in the JrNBA Asia camp. The culmination is an all-expense paid NBA experience trip.
